During the 1970s, the culture of major regattas for a select number of the Family Islands was strengthened. Cat Island was in that group of islands that presented social/sports sailing extravaganzas that complimented quite well the annual premier sailing event in Exuma.

The annual Cat Island Rake n' Scrape Festival struggled for government support this year because of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Relays and the inaugural Bahamas Junkanoo Carnival, according to Sidney Isaacs, president of the Cat Island Rake n' Scrape Association.

Getting Cat Island Back On Track Hurricane Relief Concert & Fun Day
It has been many weeks since the arrival and departure of Hurricane Irene but around our beautiful isles of the Bahamas the signs of her coming can be seen in the ravaged landscape and destroyed homes. Cat Island was one of the many islands that took most of the brunt of the hurricane which resulted in unprecedented levels of destruction.
